Legitimate, Azharul Husna is the Coordinator of KontraS Aceh for the Period 2022-2026

A young activist, Azharul Husna was elected as the Coordinator of the Working Committee of the Commission for Disappeared Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS) Aceh, for the period 2022-2026. He was elected through a series of activities at the General Meeting of Members (RUA) VI KontraS Aceh which took place from Thursday-Friday (18-19 August 2022) in Banda Aceh.

RUA VI was attended by at least 55 members of KontraS Aceh, both online and offline. On the first day, a public discussion was held to discuss the consolidation of civil society in an effort to support sustainable peace in Aceh. This discussion brought together the speakers of the Director of the Katahati Institute, Raihal Fajri, Chairman of the Aceh KontraS Management Board, Feri Kusuma, and the Deputy Chair of the Aceh Truth and Reconciliation Commission (KKR), Oni Imelva.

The activity was then continued with a General Meeting of Members to discuss a number of agendas, including the accountability report of the Management Board and the Aceh KontraS Work Agency, AD/ART, proposals for future work programs, and government officials.Election of the Governing Council and the Coordinator of the Aceh KontraS Work Agency.

For the board of directors, KontraS Aceh appointed five people: Maimun Saleh, Norma Manalu, Surna Lastri, Heri Saputra and Hendra Saputra. The agenda then continued with the nomination of the BP KontraS Aceh Coordinator. On this occasion two people nominated themselves as coordinators, namely Azharul Husna and Robby Firmansyah.

From the voting results, Azharul Husna got 37 votes, ahead of Robby Firmansyah who got 18 votes. With these results, Azharul Husna was legally elected as the new KontraS Aceh Coordinator, replacing the 2017-2021 coordinator, Hendra Saputra.

Azharul Husna explained several things in the vision and mission of his nomination as the Coordinator of BP KontraS Aceh. Regarding the vision, Husna explained, he stated that he wanted to make KontraS Aceh a solid and character organization to encourage the fulfillment of the rights of victims of past human rights violations.

Husna also emphasized several points of his mission for the leadership of KontraS Aceh in the future, namely 1) strengthening the institutions and workers' bodies, 2) strengthening the networks that have been built so far at the local, national and international levels, and 3) consolidating the victim community in encouraging confessions. and fulfillment of the rights of victims of past human rights violations.

Previously, Azharul Husna served as Head of the Advocacy and Campaign Division at KontraS Aceh. He is known to be consistently active in human rights issues in Aceh, especially advocating for the fulfillment of the rights of victims of human rights violations as well as organizing victims' communities. She has been doing this since she was active in several previous institutions, such as the Indonesian Women's Coalition (KPI) and Women Volunteers for Humanity (RPuK).

"With the leadership of KontraS Aceh in the future, we want to ensure that KontraS Aceh will remain at the forefront of civil society efforts to encourage the fulfillment of the rights of victims of past human rights violations in Aceh," said Husna.

In addition, he also emphasized the importance of mainstreaming issues related to human rights among the younger generation. “On many occasions, KontraS Aceh continues to encourage the active role of youth in Aceh to participate in voicing the narrative of the fulfillment of the rights of victims of past human rights violations, including through the Human Rights School (SeHAMa) program, the 'Lorong Memories' activity, the KontraS Aceh Human Rights Museum. , as well as the last one yesterday, held an event Letter of Hope which are all held collaboratively involving activists, students and artists in Aceh, this will continue to be encouraged,” he concluded.
