"Police Must Reveal Motives for Shooting Residents in Nagan Raya, Witness Must Be Protected by LPSK"

On Thursday, April 11, 2021, Devis Misano (35), a resident of Simpang Deli Kilang Village, Darul Makmur District, Nagan Raya Regency, was shot in his oil palm plantation.

Based on information from the victim's family published in the media, the shooting incident occurred at around 16.00 WIB. The suspect then approached the victim and shouted threatening to shoot him. The victim had ignored the threat.

Not long after, the perpetrator shot the victim with an Airsoft Gun, hitting him in the stomach. The victim ran to save himself, until the victim fell and became unconscious among the bushes. In a critical condition, he was taken to the Teuku Peukan Regional General Hospital (RSUD), Southwest Aceh. He is still in treatment after undergoing surgery.

A week later, this case surfaced in the mass media. The Nagan Raya Resort Police on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, stated that they had named a suspect in this case. His party has examined 9 witnesses, including Devis Misanov as a shooting victim who has seen and heard firsthand the incident.

The police finally arrested the suspect with the initials AT (27). The police also seized evidence from the hands of the perpetrators, in the form of two brown PCP air rifles and one projectile.

Separately, however, the victim admitted that he was strange with the determination of the suspect, because he did not know the figure of AT at all. Since then, the case has continued and raised many questions.

Meanwhile, the latest information from various sources, the victim and his family began to experience intimidation from certain parties, as the media coverage in Aceh related to this case was widespread.

In response to this, the Commission for Disappeared Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS) Aceh and Jakarta supports the efforts of the Nagan Raya Police Chief who is currently working on this case. We also urge the Nagan Raya police to conduct a thorough, accountable and transparent investigation/investigation regarding this shooting incident against civilians.

Including, it is important for the police to uncover the motive behind this shooting.

It didn't stop there, KontraS also asked the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) to immediately provide maximum protection to victims and their families, considering the pressure that has been on them has been increasing since this case emerged to the public. This protection is important to strengthen the work of the police.
