KontraS Aceh Collects Information on the Dismissal of Major General (Purn) Achmad Marzuki from TNI Status

The Aceh Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS) sent a letter to the Information Management and Documentation Officer (PPID) of the Indonesian National Army/TNI institution regarding the process of dismissing Major General TNI (Ret.) Achmad Marzuki. The letter was sent on Wednesday, July 13, 2022.

Previously, it was known that the "quick" process of changing Achmad Marzuki's status from a TNI officer to the present as Acting Governor of Aceh sparked problems. He was declared retired on Friday July 1, 2022. Then on July 4, Marzuki was appointed by the Minister of Home Affairs as Expert Staff to the Minister of Home Affairs for Law and National Unity with the rank of middle high leadership at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Two days later, Marzuki was immediately appointed by the Minister of Home Affairs as Acting Governor of Aceh and inaugurated on Wednesday, July 6, 2022. Therefore, it is important to ensure that the process of changing the status has complied with the applicable regulations.

To the TNI PPID, KontraS Aceh requested information on Marzuki's dismissal from TNI officer status. "We have made requests for information to the TNI headquarters by sending email and also sent letters directly to the TNI PPID,” said the Head of the Aceh KontraS Advocacy Division, Azharul Husna.

“Based on Law Number 14 of 2008 concerning Public Information Disclosure. So KontraS Aceh requested information regarding the dismissal of Achmad Marzuki," Husna.

He continued, access to data and information is part of transparency and accountability in governance in accordance with the spirit of reform. This information will be used as material for studies related to the process of appointing Achmad Marzuki as Acting Governor of Aceh.

“Efforts to question the status of the dismissal of Achmad Marzuki are also part of ensuring the accountability of the process of appointing the PJ Governor from the military. Civil society has an interest in guarding the spirit of reform in the security sector as part of the reform agenda," concluded Azharul Husna.[]
